About Tiverton
Tiverton is a market town 15 miles north of Exeter on the M5 corridor, sitting in the Exe valley at the foot of Exmoor. It has a longer history than its current appearance suggests - Tiverton Castle dates to the 12th century and the Pannier Market has been running for centuries - but the town's modern housing stock is heavily shaped by the substantial local authority building programme of the 1960s and early 1970s. Large estates were built during that period across the western and northern parts of town, and much of that housing has since passed into private ownership.
The original windows on those post-war estates are now one of the defining window installation issues in Tiverton. Many of the houses built in the 1960s and early 1970s were fitted with single-glazed steel or aluminium frame windows - thin metal frames with a single pane of glass and no thermal break. They were standard construction practice at the time but are now completely inadequate by modern standards. They're cold, draughty and covered in condensation in winter. Replacing them with modern A-rated uPVC casement windows makes an immediate and dramatic difference to the thermal performance and comfort of the house.
Tiverton also has Victorian and Edwardian town centre housing on the streets around the High Street and the Grand Western Canal, some of which has more sympathetic architectural character than the estate housing. The canal itself is a pleasant walk and worth seeing if you're in town. Tiverton Parkway station, a few miles east on the mainline to Paddington, makes the town reasonably well-connected despite its inland position.

The Benefits Of New Windows In Tiverton
For Tiverton's post-war estate housing with original metal frames, replacing the windows isn't an upgrade - it's overdue maintenance that makes the house genuinely liveable in winter.
- Single-glazed metal frames provide almost no thermal insulation - replacing with A-rated double glazing is one of the biggest single improvements you can make to a 1960s or 70s Tiverton house
- Dramatically reduced condensation - metal frames with single glazing are cold enough to produce condensation that runs down the inside of the window and pools on the sill every morning in winter
- Significant heating bill reduction - the savings on a whole-house replacement of single-glazed metal frames are substantial, and the payback period can be shorter than most people expect
- Better security - modern multipoint locking on new uPVC frames is a major improvement over the basic catches on original estate window frames
- Zero maintenance - uPVC doesn't corrode or need painting, unlike the metal frames that are often showing rust and seized mechanisms by this age
Our Guarantee
Every window and door we install is backed by a 10-year workmanship guarantee. That covers the fitting itself - how the frame sits in the opening, how it's sealed, how the hardware operates. If anything we've done causes a problem within ten years, we come back and fix it.
The glazing units themselves also carry a 10-year manufacturer's guarantee against seal failure and condensation between the panes. Both guarantees are issued in writing on completion of the job, alongside your FENSA certificate. When you come to sell, your solicitor will ask for these documents - we make sure you have everything you need.
The guarantee only stands if the product is correctly installed. That's why we don't rush surveys, we don't cut corners on preparation, and we don't send crews who don't know what they're doing. The guarantee is only as good as the quality of the work behind it.

"A significant share of our Tiverton calls come from homes built in the 1960s and 70s - the original single-glazed metal frame windows on those properties are decades past their working life and making the houses genuinely cold."

What Tiverton Customers Say
Genuine feedback from homeowners across Exeter and the surrounding area
"Had all eight windows replaced in our 1970s house in Heavitree. The team arrived on time, laid dust sheets throughout and were done in two days. Biggest difference is the warmth - no more draught across the living room floor in January. Really happy with the whole job."
Karen T. — Heavitree, Exeter
"I got three quotes. These were the only company who actually came out and measured properly before pricing - the others just asked for the number of windows and gave me a number over the phone. The price was competitive and the job was done cleanly. Would use again without hesitation."
Mark R. — Topsham
"Secondary glazing fitted throughout our listed cottage near the Cathedral Close. They knew the planning restrictions before I'd even finished explaining and recommended exactly the right product. The noise reduction from the road is noticeable immediately. Brilliant from start to finish."
Sarah M. — St Leonard's, Exeter
"Composite front door replaced after the old one warped and stopped sealing properly. The new door is solid, the fitting is neat and they took the old door away. Got our FENSA certificate in the post a few days later. Exactly what you want - no fuss, job done."
David H. — Pinhoe, Exeter
"Bi-fold doors fitted to the rear of our extension in St Thomas. The difference to the kitchen is incredible - it feels like a completely different room when they're open onto the garden. The team were tidy, professional and explained everything clearly throughout. Top marks."
Claire W. — St Thomas, Exeter

Composite front doors start from around £900-£1,400 fitted.
The energy savings from replacing single-glazed metal frames with A-rated double glazing are significant - more so than for properties already on older double glazing. Most Tiverton homeowners find the payback period from the reduced heating bills is shorter than they expected.
